Lagavulin Distillery is 3 miles from Port Ellen on the Island of Islay. It is the second of the three distilleries that are next to Port Ellen. Like Ardbeg and Laphroiag, Lagavulin is a very beautiful distillery set on the coast of Islay. Lagavulin officially dates back to 1816 and records show illicit distillation happened on the site as far back as 1742. The bay at Lagavulin Distillery has a scenic view of the Dunnyvaig Castle. The castle is where Robert Bruce took refuge after his defeat by the Earl of Pembroke. It was also one of the strongholds to which the Lords of the Isles retreated.
