Of the readily-available malts, Lagavulin remains my favourite. It has a refinement and a smoothness that the other readily-found Islays do not. Not to be missed.
I assume a 5 means good? Well, this tasty dram is quite good. Did the Pepsi challenge against the standard bottle of 10-year and this one, while v-e-r-y similar, nosed, drank and finished much smoother than its more "mainstreamed" cousin. There was less iodine and medicine in its flavour than the regular. All in all a very satisfying dram, on cold or warm days.
What a stinking load of beaver crap! I drank this in a taverna in the darkest regions of Manila. I had to blend 6 oz of coca fucking cola and hold my nose to force this concotion of pure evil down my throat. Don't waste your money! I can recommend Golden Leaf instead. Now that will put lead in your pencil Just don't get carried away and mutilate some gook prozzies while you're enjoying the peaty rush!
Today I picked up two bottles of scotch from Islay. I find this one to be very straightforward in its flavor, smokey peat.
Its still a bit rough around the edges, but that might be because of its young age.
I'll know more after I crack the second bottle.
