Single malt whisky is a whisky made at one particular distillery from a mash that uses one particular malted grain, which is ordinarily barley. Single malts are typically associated with Scotland, though they are also produced in various other countries. Under the Scotch Whisky Regulations, a "Single Malt Scotch Whisky" must be made exclusively from malted barley and must be distilled using a pot still and must be aged for at least three years in oak casks of a capacity not exceeding 700 liters. Littlemill was demolished in 2005, but had stopped distilling in 1996. Never the prettiest of distilleries, but its whiskey can be extremely attractive as this cask demonstrates. Aged in oak casks for 24 years. Distilled November 7, 1988. Bottled January 2013. One of 348 bottlings.

Founded in 1794 at the heart of the coastal town known as "The Gateway to the Isles", this is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. Oban's tiny stills marry the sea air character of the Island malts to the soft, richly fruity style of the Highlands, creating their own rich, elegant and glowing West Highland malt.

From the town of Rothes, comes this sweet and fruity malt whisky from the Glen Grant Distillery. Typical for its area, the spirit is flavourful. Cask No. 130804. Distilled in October 1992. Bottled in January 2013. One of 212 bottles.
