Bowmore
Bowmore Distillery is said to be founded in 1779, which makes Bowmore one of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland. The distillery was founded by John P. Simpson. The distillery is found on the south east shore of Loch Indaal, on the Island of Islay. The distillery receives its water from the river Laggan. During WWII Bowmore halted production as the distillery was commandeered by the RAF Costal Command. The Costal Command operated flying boats from Loch Indaal on Anti-submarine warfare missions. The distillery has four stills, two wash and two spirit. They produce around 2,000,000 litres of alcohol a year. Bowmore still have their own floor maltings. They have three malt floors that produce around a third of the malted barley needed for production in the year. In 1994 Bowmore was purchased by the Japanese group, Suntory. In 1995 Bowmore was nominated for ‘Distillery of the Year’ in the International Wine and Spirits Competition. House Style: Smoky, with leafy notes and sea air.

On the nose, notes of wood shavings, cooked fruit, eucalyptus and citrus. On the palate are flavors of oak, mint, herbs and berry fruits. A sleek finish of winter berries, citrus and dry pine.
