Laphroaig distillery is the first distillery in a row of three. Laphroiag, Lagavulin and then Ardbeg. Laphroiag Distillery is steeped in history, it has a very nice history museum that makes you feel like you have gone back in time. Laphroiag is one of the distilleries in Scotland that still has its own floor malting’s. The distillery still make about 25% of their own malted barley and the rest they get from Port Ellen malting’s just down the road. Being able to see the floor malting’s done by hand emphasizes the dying art of floor malting’s done by hand and how much hard work goes into doing it. Islay is a magnificent island and is a must see by any true whisky enthusiast.

A meaty and musty though quite fruity nose with, wafers, nutmeg, mustard seeds and sea salt. On the Palate: Chocolaty and a good amount of pepper – very spicy (not black pepper spicy, more like hot pepper spice), soup, stew and salt. Extremely mature and delicate peat, pungent, soy sauce and veggie dumplings. Mature and sexy, with a medium to long finish, salty and a bit spicy.
